How to choose the “right” bulb?

You have just bought a new light and you can't wait to see it light up your evenings!
If the light source is not integrated, it is your responsibility to choose the bulb best suited to your new fixture and your lighting needs.

There are mainly two types of bulbs on the market today: compact fluorescent bulbs (or low consumption) and LED bulbs.

Because their light efficiency is the best on the market, we recommend that you choose an LED bulb. There is a wide variety of them today and its energy consumption is the lowest on the market for the same light intensity.

To choose a bulb in an “informed” way, some important concepts should be known:

-the power expressed in Watt (W) indicates the electrical consumption of the bulb,

-the light intensity expressed in Lumen (Lm) indicates the quantity of light provided. The greater the Lm/W ratio, the better the efficiency. We advise you to choose bulbs with an output of at least 120 Lm/W.

-the lighting color expressed in degrees Kelvin (K). K is between 2700 and 6000 K. The greater K is, the whiter the light emitted. To obtain a warm colored light , choose a bulb of approximately 2700 Kelvin . For a more neutral light color , choose a bulb of approximately 3800 Kelvin . Finally, to obtain a very white light color , choose a bulb of 5000 Kelvin for example.

Some tips for choosing wisely:

For a living room , a bedroom or a relaxation area, we advise you to opt for an LED bulb of 2700 to 3000 Kelvins . This type of light will have a calming and relaxing effect conducive to relaxation.

For the main lighting of a living room , a bedroom or a dining room for example, we recommend that you allow around 100 Lm per m². This figure must be refined depending on the color of the walls, the ceiling height and the activities you carry out in these rooms.

For an office , a workshop , a kitchen or any place where you need concentration, we advise you to choose LED bulbs of more than 5300 Kelvins to stimulate your concentration.

For the main lighting of an office , a workshop , a kitchen or a bathroom , we recommend that you allow around 300 Lm per m². This figure can also be refined depending on the color of the walls and the ceiling height of the rooms.
